You want Claude to read and answer WhatsApp for you. Here is the exact MCP setup: link your number, add the connector, approve access, and run a read-only triage first.

How to Connect WhatsApp to Claude (MCP Integration Setup Guide)

Connecting WhatsApp to Claude means giving Claude a set of WhatsApp tools through the Model Context Protocol (MCP). Blueticks exposes those tools for your own WhatsApp number, and Claude calls them when you ask in plain language. For a first run, I recommend read-only: have Claude read your recent chats and draft replies, then approve each send yourself.

This guide covers the two ways to connect, what the first session looks like, and the places setups usually break. MCP is included in every paid tier, see the pricing page.

What does the first session look like?

In one session, you ask Claude who is waiting on a reply from your recent chats. Claude reads those chats and their messages, judges which ones need an answer, and drafts a reply for each. You send.

The first run follows five steps:

  1. Link your WhatsApp number to Blueticks through the Blueticks browser extension or, on Pro, the cloud.
  2. Connect Claude to the Blueticks server (remote connector or API key, covered below).
  3. Confirm the WhatsApp tools load in Claude.
  4. Ask: "Who is waiting on my reply from my recent chats? Draft a short reply for each, and do not send anything."
  5. Read the drafts, then tell Claude which ones to send, and approve each one by name.

Two things to know before you start. On Basic and Standard, Blueticks runs in your browser, so keep the browser open. On Pro, your agent, schedules and campaigns are cloud-hosted and keep working 24/7. The pricing page lists what each tier includes.

How do I connect Claude to WhatsApp with the remote connector?

To connect Claude with the remote connector, copy your Blueticks MCP URL, add it as a custom connector in Claude, and approve access with a Blueticks login. The connector URL is https://api.blueticks.co/mcp. No API key is pasted into Claude, and the login uses OAuth.

I confirmed the server side directly. The OAuth discovery document at https://api.blueticks.co/.well-known/oauth-authorization-server names the authorization, token, and client registration endpoints, requires PKCE with S256, and offers the mcp:read and mcp:write scopes. The protected-resource document at https://api.blueticks.co/.well-known/oauth-protected-resource points back to the same server. The in-app connect dialog and Claude's help center give these steps:

  1. Open the AI Assistant in Blueticks and choose Claude. Copy the MCP URL.
  2. In Claude, open Customize > Connectors. Claude's own help center uses that path in its remote MCP connector guide.
  3. Click add, then "Add custom connector." Name it Blueticks, paste the URL, and click Add or Connect.
  4. Claude sends you to a Blueticks login. Approve access there.
  5. Back in Claude, ask a read-only question such as "list my recent WhatsApp chats" to confirm the tools loaded.

If you already use a connector slot for something else, check Claude's connector list before adding Blueticks.

Where a menu label differs in your Claude build, trust the Claude help center over this article. The steps above are the labels I could confirm today.

How do I connect with an API key instead?

To connect with an API key, generate a bt_live_ key in Blueticks and add the @blueticks/mcp server to your Claude Desktop config with the key as an environment variable. Use this path if you prefer key-based auth.

The Blueticks MCP docs describe the server as launched on demand with npx, reading BLUETICKS_API_KEY from its environment (Blueticks MCP docs). Here is the config block for Claude Desktop:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "blueticks": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": ["-y", "@blueticks/mcp"],
      "env": {
        "BLUETICKS_API_KEY": "bt_live_your_key_here"
      }
    }
  }
}

Treat the key as a password. Never paste it into a chat, a repo, or a shared config.

Then do the same restart and verification as above. Restart Claude Desktop, then ask for your recent chats.

One tip: check that the config is valid JSON, with no trailing commas, before you restart.

Sign up for Blueticks, then connect Claude and ask who is waiting on you.

Can Claude tell who is waiting on my reply?

Claude reads recent chats and their messages, then judges which ones look unanswered. Treat that as a triage aid. It can misjudge a chat where the last message was a thank-you that still needs a response, so review each draft before you send.

Do not expect Claude to know that a client promised you a callback yesterday unless that promise is in the messages it reads.

Is this the WhatsApp Business API?

No. Blueticks links your own WhatsApp number through the Blueticks browser extension or, on Pro, the cloud. It does not use Meta's Cloud API. The Cloud API is a separate product for sending from a business number, and Meta charges per message, effective July 1, 2025.

Pick the tool for the job. Personal and small-team follow-ups from your own number fit this setup. Automated notices to thousands of customers from a brand number fit the Business API.

There is no account-safety guarantee in either direction. WhatsApp can restrict any account that sends in patterns it treats as abusive, and automated sending increases that risk. Keep volumes human, avoid blasting cold numbers, and review drafts before they go out.

Troubleshooting: tools missing, auth failing, or sends not firing

If setup fails, check these in order: Claude was restarted, the connector or key is correct, the JSON is valid, and your WhatsApp number is still linked. Work through them in that order.

  1. Restart Claude completely. Restart Claude Desktop, then reopen it.
  2. Check the connector. On the remote path, confirm the Blueticks connector is enabled in Claude's connector list.
  3. Re-check the key. On the API-key path, confirm it starts with bt_live_ and has no spaces or line breaks. If you are unsure, generate a fresh key.
  4. Validate the JSON. Paste the config into a validator. Fix any error it reports.
  5. Confirm your number is still linked. In Blueticks, check that the number is still connected. If it is not, re-link it, then retry with a message to yourself.

If the steps above do not fix it, send Blueticks support the exact error text Claude shows.

FAQ

Can Claude connect to WhatsApp? Yes. Claude connects to your own WhatsApp number through the Blueticks MCP server, either with the remote connector and a Blueticks login, or with the local @blueticks/mcp server and a bt_live_ key. Once connected, Claude can read recent chats and draft replies. We recommend approving each send yourself.

How do I connect WhatsApp to Claude? Link your number to Blueticks, then add the connector at https://api.blueticks.co/mcp in Claude under Customize > Connectors, and approve access with a Blueticks login. Verify by asking Claude to list your recent chats.

Do I need an API key, or can I connect with only a login? The remote connector needs only a login. It uses OAuth, so no key is pasted into Claude. The API-key path uses the @blueticks/mcp server in your Claude Desktop config.

Do I need the WhatsApp Business API for this? No. Blueticks links your own number through the Blueticks browser extension or, on Pro, the cloud. The Business API is a separate product for sending from a business number.

Does my plan include MCP? MCP is included in every paid tier, see the pricing page.
